Podcast Librarian’s Review:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The tagline says it best: “The show about the things we think about a lot and need to talk about more.” Anna Sales is a fantastic public radio-style interviewer who brings out the best storytelling from her guests, who are mostly regular people but also include celebrities like Jeff Daniels and Alec Baldwin. It’s really difficult to pick just a few episodes to recommend if you’re just getting started (and since this show has been around since 2014 and has about 200 episodes, it’s hard to know where to start). On the DSM website, you can check out the Starter Kit for fan favorites. Some favorites of mine: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Stop Calling Me “The Homeless Valedictorian”
Autism Isn’t What I Signed Up For Sonia Manzano and Justice Sotomayor (Manzano was a guest host for this episode while Anna was out of maternity leave) So Many Sex Ed Fails When We Sent Our Son Away One of the neat things about DSM is that Anna follows up with certain guests every so often to see how they’re doing. That kind of ongoing relationship makes the stories more poignant and the interviewees more real. Depending on the episode, you may find yourself laughing, crying, inspired, or a combination of these. I recommend checking out as many episodes as you can of this excellent pod. No matter who you are, how old you are, or your background, you’re sure to find some episodes relatable and learn more about other peoples’ lives, too—after all, death, sex, and money are the certainties of life that we all have in common.⠀⠀
