There's really nothing like it...but Heavyweight is somewhat comparable, as are certain episodes of Reply All. Interestingly, those are both Gimlet shows, so maybe it's a network style, but I don't know why Starlee is no longer around!

Podcast Librarian’s Review: In MS, Starlee investigates the small (and seemingly insignificant) mysteries of everyday life. She’ll take on any mystery that can NOT be solved with a Google search. It’s difficult to describe the magic of this podcast—it has the storytelling quality of This American Life with a hint of satire and tongue-in-cheek tones. But the beauty is that Starlee put so much time into solving these mysteries and discovered even more about the human experience (I know, I’m getting super woo-woo now). I love all six episodes, but when I talk to people about MS (which is more often than you might think—hardcore, long-term fans of pods know it and adore it), the conversation immediately goes to Episode 2: Britney. As you may guess, it’s a mystery that involves the most famous Britney who ever lived as well as an unknown author whose book the super-famous Britney was photographed carrying once. Episode 5 (Source Code) was also VERY satisfying. Each episode meanders to a conclusion, with Starlee talking to lots of people about nothing related to the mystery, but it all works because Starlee is like a combination of Encyclopedia Brown and Oprah. Despite all that I’ve written, I still feel I haven’t given this pod enough justice. The real mystery is why this podcast ceased production (thus making it an addition to my #dearlydepodded), and that’s the saddest mystery of all. But good news, I looked up Starlee Kine on IG recently, and she has a Patreon set up to start a new project. I don’t know what exactly it is, but I’m excited because just from my experience listening to MS, I believe wholeheartedly in anything Starlee makes.

Ok, I’ve gushed long enough. Can you do me a favor, please? Go download and listen to the six episodes of Mystery Show. Feel free to email me or comment your thoughts because of all the pods I love, this is the one I love talking about the most.
