Podcast Librarian’s Review
If you’re a regular Podcast Librarian reader, you know that I’m a reality show junkie--though most of my watching is Bravo-based because I love Watch What Crappens recaps. Incidentally, that’s how I learned about Rose Pricks and, as a result, began watching The Bachelor/ette shows. I would happily listen to Ronnie Karam talk about and impersonate any reality TV dumb-dumbs, and boy, does The Bachelor franchise reliably deliver on dumb-dumbs. When Ronnie announced that he was taking a break from Rose Pricks, I almost decided to stop watching the show/listening to the podcast. Blame it on the pandemic or whatever else, but I just couldn’t quit The Bachelorette this time around, so I returned to Rose Pricks after all. Obviously, I'm glad I did.
Even with the co-host switch-up, this remains the one Bachelor-related podcast that I can’t miss (and believe me, I tried all the other active ones). Some Bachelor recap pods pander too much to the Bachelor Nation “stars” (because they aim to have them as guests), and others are too bro-y in their humor (there are several that are hosted by all guys)--but this one is just right. Even without Ronnie’s ridiculously hilarious impressions of the dodo birds who get cast on the show, the pod still delivers, and Angel’s sharp wit and experience as a non-Bachelor/ette watcher up until this season makes it a fun, fresh listen. There are some fun ongoing jokes, like Bachelor speak: walls down, "vunerable," and the hierarchy of love proclamations (I'm starting to fall in love with you; I'm falling in love with you, and finally, I love you). Obviously, this is not a podcast for everyone, but if you’re a Bachelor franchise hate-watcher or are looking for a way to rob yourself of 4+ hours every week (seriously, why the hell are Bachelor episodes so long?), then you will love Rose Pricks: A Bachelor Roast.
